Jo Raquel Welch (nye Tejada born on September 5, 1940) is an American actress. She first won attention for her performance in Fantastic Voyage (1966), after which she won a contract with 20th Century Fox. They granted the contract to Hammer Film Productions in Britain which was where she appeared in One Million Years B.C. (1966). Even though she only had three lines of dialogue in the film, images of her wearing a bikini that she was wearing became the most popular posters that turned her into an international sex icon. In the following years, she appeared in Bedazzled (1967), Bandolero! (1968), 100 Rifles (1969), Myra Breckinridge (1970) and Hannie Caulder (1971). Welch was a star of many variety television shows. Her performance of powerful women characters made her break the mold of the sex icon that was a norm. Her rise to fame in the mid-1960s was partly due to the fact that Hollywood stopped its vigorous advertising of blondes as bombshells.
