Jordan Ross Belfort is an American financial criminal as well as a speaker, author of books former stockbroker, entrepreneur and ex-stockbroker. He pleaded guilty in 1999 of charges of fraud, including manipulating stock markets and operating a boiler-room as part a penny-stock scheme. Belfort served 22 months of prison as per an agreement that required him to testify against his subordinates and partners involved in the fraud scheme. He wrote his memoir The Wolf of Wall Street in 2007, and it was made into an Martin Scorsese film of the similar title in the year 2013, in which Belfort was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.Between finishing high school and entering university, Belfort and his close childhood friend Elliot Loewenstern earned $20,000 selling Italian frozen ice made from Styrofoam containers for sale to local residents at the beach. Belfort was a graduate of American University in Biology. Belfort was planning to use the earnings he made from Loewenstern to attend dental college. He enrolled in at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He left after the director of the school announced to him on his first dayat the school "The gold age of dentistry is over. If you're here simply because you're looking to make lots of money You're not in the right spot.
