Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress as well as philanthropist and businesswoman who is most famous for her work in country music. Parton's success as a songwriter led her to make her debut album in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly. The album was followed by commercial great success throughout the 1960s as a solo artist as well as in a series with Porter Wagoner, before she achieved her highest sales in the 1970s, and continued to do so until the 1980s. Parton's albums in the 1990s did not sell as well, but she rediscovered commercial success in the new millennium and has released albums through various independent labels in the years since 2000 and her own label, Dolly Records. Parton has sold more than 100 million records around the globe. Her music includes Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA-certified platinum, gold and multi-platinum award-winning tracks. She has had 25 tracks make it to no. one on the Billboard country charts, a record for a female artist (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are an all-time record for any artist.
