Bernard John Taupin, CBE (born 22 May 1950), is a popular English artist, songwriter, and artist. He is most famous for his long-running collaboration with the musician Elton John, a songwriting partnership that is one of the most successful in recent history. Taupin has composed the lyrics for a majority of John's songs.In 1967, Taupin answered an advertisement in the newspaper New Musical Express placed by Liberty Records, a company seeking new songwriters. John also responded to the same ad and they were brought together and have collaborated on numerous albums since. John and Taupin were both inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame 1992. John was the son of Robert Taupin, and Daphne daughter of John Leonard Palchett Poppy Cort, who was a University of Cambridge-educated classics teacher, and former Rector of Sale, Greater Manchester (then also known as Cheshire).
