 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is an Emirati businessman and politician with a net worth of $14 billion. He serves as the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, as also the Emirate's ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed, the owner of 99.67 percent Dubai Holding, is also responsible for the artificial islands made of palm trees in the Persian Gulf. He was born in Dubai on July 15, 1949. At the time of his birth the United Arab Emirates had not been established at the time of his birth. He belongs to the Al Maktoum clan, Dubai's rulers. They are also descendants of the House of Falasi. His grandfather's maternal line was the Abu Dhabi ruler. Sheikh Mohammed is the third son of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum (out of a total of four sons) and Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan.Sheikh Mohammed was educated in Dubai until the year 1966, when he and his cousin moved to the United Kingdom to attend the Bell Educational Trust's English Language School. After having graduated from Aldershot's Mons Officer Cadet School, He was able to receive military training.
