Screenshot

A screenshot (also known as screen capture, or screen grab) is an image in digital format that displays the content of a display on a computer. A screenshot is created by the operating system or software running on the device powering the display.Additionally, screenshots can be captured by an external camera, using photography to capture contents on the screen. The first screenshots were created with the first interactive computers around 1960.Through the 1980s, computer operating systems did not universally have built-in functionality for capturing screenshots. Screens that were text-only could be redirected to a text file, however, the output would only record the contents of the screen and not the appearance of the screen, nor could graphics screens be saved by this method. Certain systems had the BSAVE command, which could be used to store the screen's information stored in memory. However, this would require access to a BASIC prompt. Systems with composite video output were connected to a VCR and screencasts in entirety were saved this way.Screenshot kits were offered for standard (film) cameras, which included an antireflective hood that was long enough to be able to connect the lens of the camera and the screen and an enlarger lens for the camera. Because of its instant results and its ability to focus tight, Polaroid film was a popular choice for capturing screen shots.
