Nelson Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist from South Africa, a politician and philanthropist, with an estimated net worth of more than of $1 million at the time of December 2013. Nelson Mandela served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.The major portion of Mandela's wealth came through book royalties earned from his best autobiography of 1994 "Long Walk to Freedom". Nelson was a semi-active speaker when his health was good. When he was president, Mandela slashed his salary and in addition to that, he donated 1/3 of his salary to South African children's charities.Towards the final days of his life Mandela's family engaged in a bitter war over his wealth. Nelson was married three times and had six children (only three of them were still living at his death). Nelson put the bulk of his money in more than a dozen trust funds, which would benefit his children and prevent the siblings from having to fight. The trusts have provided numerous benefits.
