Ja Morant was born Temetrius Jamel Morant to Jamie and Tee in Dalzell, South Carolina on the 10th of August, 1999. His father was a basketball player at Claflin University, while his mother was a guard at high school prior to becoming an NCAA softball player. There is a younger sister called Teniya who also plays basketball. Morant played basketball in the backyard of his child with his father. He went on to play on the Amateur Athletic Union circuit, along with the South Carolina Hornets. Morant attended Crestwood High School where the school had him on the basketball team. Morant was the school's top scorer with 1,679 points at the time he left.
